Obituaries PUBLISHED: A resident of Elk Rapids, she was born in Fowlerville, Mich., on July 6, 1916, the daughter of LaVern and Beatrice (Sober) Duncan. Garnette married Allen George Kimble on March 17, 1940, in Corunna, Mich. Garnette was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids. She also belonged to the Gideon's International Auxiliary. Garnette loved to play bingo and word searches, along with cooking, watching basketball, listening to music and eating her beloved sweets. She especially loved being home to spend time with family and being a homemaker. "Pinky Pink" was often referred to as her favorite color. Allen and Garnette wintered in Winter Haven, Fla. for over 25 years. She worked at Montgomery Ward as a bookkeeper. Garnette also worked at the First Federal Savings for 25 years before she retired. Garnette is survived by a daughter, Bonnie (Allan) Cohoon; a son, George (Terri) Kimble; seven grandchildren, Todd (Kim) Cohoon, Tracy VanRiper, Tricia (Robert) McGillis, Stephanie (Eric) McLean, Julie (Armann) Fenger, Kaila and Mitchell Crandall; nine great-grandchildren, Brodie and Hunter VanRiper, Karley Rose, Kaiden, and Kalvin McGillis, Savannah Cohoon, Madaline Jones, Avery and Madylin McLean; siblings, Arola Bickford and sister-in-law Helen (Kimble) Campbell; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Allen in 2005, her brother LaVern "Red" Duncan, and sister Geraldine Duncan. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Grand Traverse Pavilions. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Garnette's life will be held Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids, with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Herlein officiating. Memorial contributions can be made out to the Grand Traverse Pavilions Foundation, or the First Presbyterian Church of Elk Rapids. Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home in Elk Rapids. |
