She was born April 13, 1935, to Fredrick and Julia (Ballentine) Moran in Traverse City. Shirley started school in Kewadin and transferred in the sixth grade to Elk Rapids where she graduated in 1953. Shirley continued her education, receiving a certificate in secretarial administration. She worked as a secretary for several years.

On Aug. 27, 1960, Shirley married the late Robert Yuchaz in Kewadin, Mich.

Shirley married the late Doyle Westlund on Dec. 12, 1981, in Elk Rapids. Shirley enjoyed fishing expeditions with both Robert and Doyle.

Shirley's hobbies were crafting, especially plastic canvas, crocheting, knitting, and stained glass. She loved spending time with her friend's and playing cards. Shirley's best friend in the whole world was her beloved dog "Jingles," who she loved with all her heart. Jingles passed away shortly after Shirley went to Grand Traverse Pavillions. Shirley's last year was spent there where many of the nurses and aides became her friends and visiting puppies would make her day.

Shirley is survived by a stepdaughter, Sandy Derman of Williamsburg; a sister, Betty (Moran) Hunt of Brocton, Ill.; and several nieces. She will be missed by all.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by both husbands; brothers Noah and Gerald Moran; and sisters Ruth (Moran) Beard and Clara (Moran) Stokes.

A mass from the order of Christian Funerals will be held Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids, with Rev. Robert J. Zuchowski presiding. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Elk Rapids Fire Department and Elk Rapids Ambulance.
