Obituaries PUBLISHED: Born June 9, 1922, in Detroit, he was the son of the late James J. and Lena (Allard) Muncey. On July 13, 1946, in Detroit, he married the former Barbara G. Baubie, who preceded him in death on Oct. 13, 2001. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Leonella Muncey. A veteran, Jim proudly served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy. For this service, he received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon, as well as many other citations. Jim was a long-time salesman with The Place Inc. in Elk Rapids. He truly loved his work, which showed in his large and faithful customer base. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Elk Rapids and the Masonic Lodge. Jim enjoyed playing bridge and was a great NASCAR fan. A devoted family man, Jim especially enjoyed the quality time he spent with his grandkids. He will be profoundly missed here on earth, but we celebrate the joy of his new life with Christ. Jim is survived by his four children, Mark (Cindy) Muncey of Boylston, Mass., Thomas Muncey and his fiancˇe, Deb Fulcher, both of Cape Cod, Mass., Kim (David) Tooker of Traverse City and JoAnne (Timothy) Potvin of Clinton; six grandchildren, Joshua and Sarah Tooker, Alex and Jenna Potvin, Michael (Sarah) Muncey and Erica (Dan) Muncey; three great-grandchildren, Jon, Nate and Anthony; and sister-in-law, Fran Bloetscher of Royal Oak. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, on the corner of Traverse and Spruce streets in Elk Rapids. Pastors David Mellor and James Helman will officiate. Following cremation, inurnment will take place in St. Paul's Church Columbarium. In remembrance of Jim, memorials may be directed to Munson Hospice House. |
