Sports PUBLISHED:
Traverse Bay is now in first place with a 3-0 record in the league. The Reps managed to put just two shots on the Cheboygan goalie in the first period, but one of them stretched the twine to give the Reps a 1-0 lead four minutes into the game. Dan Fisher (TCSF) scored the opener with the assists going to Dan Tinkle (Kalkaska) and Kowalski. The Chiefs tied the game about two minutes later, and the two sides played even until early in the third period. "We came out slow in the first period, and I don't know why," Reps coach Rex Luxton said. "But we got a league victory on the road." At 2:49 of the third period, Matt Zagers (Elk Rapids) put the visitors in front with a power-play goal assisted by Kowalski. With one minute remaining, Fisher scored an unassisted insurance marker into an empty Cheboygan goal to seal the win. "Mike [Kowalski] did a nice job of setting up Fisher for the first goal, and he also did a nice job in the neutral zone to set up the empty netter," Luxton said.
TC West 6,
Bay Reps 2 The Titans opened the scoring when Mike Martin tallied the early goal on an assist from Steve Burke, and Burke scored from Martin at 9:14 to put West ahead 2-0. West tacked on four more goals to defeat the Reps, 6-2, at Centre Ice Arena. The Titans scored three times in the second period with goals from Martin, Burke and Dylan Sullivan. The line of Martin, Burke and Thirlby accounted for four of the six Titan scores. "West is a strong team with three lines that keep coming at you," Luxton said. "My guys kept at it, though, and we got it to 5-2. We didn't quit." The Reps got their goals from Andrew Paulosky (ER), who was assisted by Andrew Zelinski (TCSF), and Fisher, unassisted. Both scores came in the third period. The Reps outshot the Titans, 22-21. Nick Rausch (ER) took the loss in the Reps goal. Traverse Bay (9-7-1) travels to Cadillac on Friday, Jan. 26, and to Manistee on Saturday, Jan. 27. |
