With about 36 seconds on the clock, Isenhart sunk the three-pointer to bring his team to 53-50, and free throws by Skyler Hindes and Zac Dreffs sealed the win for the Elks. Suttons Bay took an early lead in the game, holding an 11-point lead going into the second quarter. The Elks rallied in the next period, but the Norsemen still led, 32-30, at the end of the first half and held a 40-38 advantage going into the fourth quarter. Elk Rapids pulled out the win in the end to capture the non-conference victory. "We played more fullcourt pressure, our halfcourt defense was intense and we wore them out," Elk Rapids coach Andy Kenney said. Skyler Hindes had a solid game, Kenney said, as he netted 15 points, hauled in seven rebounds and also had four assists and three steals to lead the Elks. Isenhart chipped in with 11 points. Ian Sliger contributed with three steals and also took a big charging foul that helped turn the tide in the fourth-quarter comeback. Cale Forton led Suttons Bay with 14 points while Blake Ibbotson scored 11 points and Nalen Brockman added 10.

Elk Rapids 42 Ryan Lietow led the Blazers (3-5 LMC) with 15 points. John Kasza chipped in with 11 points, and Chris Keller contributed with 10 points and nine rebounds. Sam Wittbrodt and Mike Mangene led the Elk Rapids scoring with nine points each. Hindes chipped in with four assists while Garrett Gribi had three helpers for the game. Kalkaska led the game, 13-8, 39-17 and 52-28, at the end of the first three quarters. Elk Rapids (1-7 LMC, 5- 7 overall) hosts Traverse City St. Francis on Friday, Feb. 2. |
