Obituaries PUBLISHED: Nile graduated from Elk Rapids High School in 1948 and then served his country as a member of the United States Navy. On June 29, 1963, Nile married the love of his life, Joan Dehn, in Effingham, Ill. Nile and Joan built their home in DeWitt and Nile worked as a home builder and custom woodworker all his life. In his later years, Nile took great pleasure in making heirloom furniture for family and friends. He enjoyed fishing and regularly took fishing trips to Canada with his friends and father-in-law George Dehn. Nile and his wife Joan enjoyed spending time whale watching in Hawaii during the winter months in their retirement. They also enjoyed the company of several close friends, Jack and Phyllis Sutton, Jim (Barb) VandenBerg and Willie T. Hobbs. Nile was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, his parents, and brother, Norval. Surviving are his brother, Harold (Carol) Hubbell of Elk Rapids; sister-in-law, Maxie Dehn; several nieces and nephews and friend Albin Hengesbach and family. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt, with the Rev. Dr. Jana Lynn Almeida, Ministry Consultant, West Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt, Mich. The family received friends at the Chapel Thursday one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the DeWitt Garden Club in care of Barb Stoker, 702 W. Geneva Drive, DeWitt, MI 48820 in memory of Mr. Hubbell. |
