The Elks finished the season with a 10-8 dual meet record, a vast improvement after going 2-17 last year.

"I'll take that one as a huge improvement," Elk Rapids coach Rob Petersen said. "We finished the season pretty strong, and I'm looking forward to the upcoming district competitions."

The Elks got wins from Dylan Helferich, who pinned his man at 1:57 of the 189-pound weight class, and Jeff Steinbeck, who recorded the other win with a pin at 2:34 of the 285- pound match.

In the exhibition matches, wins went to Pat Bruening (5-3, decision), Aaron Gillett (pin, 1:08) and Garrett Foss (pin, 1:40).

Elk Rapids faces Grayling, starting at 6 p.m., in the first round of the team district at Kalkaska on Thursday, Feb. 15. Kalkaska takes on Cheboygan in the other semi-final matchup.

The Kalkaska district champion advances to the Cheboygan regional on Wednesday, Feb. 21. Elk Rapids will also wrestle at the individual districts at Standish Sterling on at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17.
