Ladies finish with a win



TRAVERSE CITY -- The Elk Rapids girls varsity bowling team ended the regular season on a winning note when the Lady Elks closed out an 18-12 victory over the Traverse City West Green junior varsity team on Saturday, Feb. 10.

The victory allowed the team to finish with a 5-3 record in the Great Northwest High School Bowling Conference. Traverse City Central finished first in the league with an 8-0 record.

Elk Rapids took 10 points in the Baker round winning both games by scores of 129-123 and 150- 141.

In the regular round, the Katie Knapp (94, 95 - 189) earned two points, while Heather Mitchell and Kathryn Berck earned one point each. Elk Rapids picked up four team points in the second regular games outscoring TC West, 733- 691.

Kate Hicks rolled the team's high series with a 148, 172 - 320.

The Elk Rapids boys varsity team fell to Traverse City St. Francis, 27-3, to end the year with a 4-4 record. Traverse City West finished in first place with a 7-1 record.

Wes Phillips rolled the high series with a 179, 164 - 343 and earned two points. Will Chandler earned one point to round out the Elks scoring.

The Elks bowl at the Great Northwest Conference finals this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17-18. The singles competition will start on Friday at 11 a.m., and the team competition will start on Saturday at 11 a.m.
