The Elks moved on to defeat Traverse City St. Francis in one semifinal match while the Traverse City West Green junior varsity downed the Traverse City West varsity in the second semifinal. The bracket round of bowling consisted of two Baker games with the winner declared on the basis of total pins knocked down. In the championship rolloff, Elk Rapids and TC West stood tied, 159-159, after the first game, but the Titans took the second game to win the match and claim the conference title. The Elk Rapids girls varsity team stood in second place after the opening round, but the team was eliminated in its first bracket-round match with TC West, 326-257. TC Central topped TC West, 332-315, in the girls championship match. The Elks had two bowlers voted to the allconference team. Jake Wilson was named first team, and Kate Hicks was named second team.
Individual
conference final Each bowler rolled two regular games in the first round of action, but only the top 16 bowlers moved on to compete in the second round pairings. Sophomore Steven Pina rolled a 160, 214Ð374 series to post the boys high score. Pina beat Tyler Monroe (TCW Gold) in his first head-to-head match then defeated Mike Dendrinos (TCSF) in his second match. Pina ended the day falling to James Fuqua (TCW) in the quarterfinals. Junior Kate Hicks bowled a 158, 155Ð313 in her first two games. Hicks lost to Dani Pahl (TCW) in her first-round bracket game. Junior Stacie Louiselle posted a 140, 155Ð195 as she advanced. Louiselle lost to Molly Valleau (TCW) in her first bracket game. Steven Turner (TCW) was the boys overall champion, and Chelsea Thompson (TCC) was the girls overall champion. The Elks bowl at the Division III regionals at Timber Lanes on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24. The individual competition will start at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, and the team competition will start on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. |
