Obituaries PUBLISHED: Clyde was born April 22, 1920, in Hollidaysburg, Pa. to Clyde T. and Edna (Smith) Williams. On June 15, 1948, he married Ruth Wick of West Sunbury, Pa. at Grove City College where both had graduated. Clyde worked at the J.L. Hudson Company in Detroit as an auditor, Credit Office Manager at the Northland store, and as Corporate Budget Controller. He served the Hudson Department Stores for 32 years. Clyde's life was one of service, beginning with his military service in WWII and continuing with leadership roles in many volunteer endeavors. He served in the United States Army during WWII in England, North Africa, and Italy. While initially going to Europe as an infantry replacement, he served mostly as an Administrator of Military Government in Italy. Clyde was an active volunteer for Junior Achievement and the United Way, President of the Southfield Rotary, Director of the Hudson Credit Union, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Northwest Detroit YMCA. In service to his church, Clyde was a Deacon, Trustee, Stephan Minister, Sunday School Teacher and an ordained Elder of the Presbyterian Church. He was most recently a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Elk Rapids after a transfer from Westminster Church of Detroit. In retirement, Clyde was active as a volunteer for the Red Cross, the Elk Rapids Library, the Elk Rapids Schools, and the Community Cupboard of Elk Rapids. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; three daughters, Barbara (Rick) Patterson of Williamsburg, Patricia (Larry) Keys and Sharon (Len) Berman of Novi; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Jen) Keys, Scott (Lisa) Keys, Marisa Patterson, Matthew Patterson, Sarah Berman, Rebecca Berman, and Joey Berman; one great-grandchild, Lauren Keys; and a sister, Virginia Augenbaugh of Altoona, Pa. Clyde was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Wick Williams and two brothers, Richard and Donald Williams. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Elk Rapids on Saturday, March 8 at noon. The Rev. Dr. Daniel Herlein and Rev. Sandra Murray will be officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in West Sunbury, Pa.
