ELK RAPIDS -- Maggie Petersen wrestled three tough matches at the individual regional tournament at Chippewa Hills on Saturday, Feb. 24, but the Elk Rapids 103-pounder fell just short of qualifying for the state final meet.

"Overall, it was a good day for her," Elk Rapids coach Rob Petersen said. "She showed some quality wrestling, and she was happy with the way she wrestled."

Maggie Petersen lost her first-round match 15-5 to Fremont's Brad Jones (45-9) and was forced to try to make her way through the consolation bracket in an attempt to grab one of the first four qualifying positions.

She won her first match in the consolation bracket with a 7-3 decision over Nick Perhai (18-24) of Cheboygan. Her day was ended by Whitehall's Chris Bobryk (25- 24) as he moved on with an 11-4 decision. She trailed Bobryk by just four points in the late stages, but a reversal and two near fall points late in the third period sealed the win for Bobryk.

Maggie Petersen closed out her junior season with 28 wins and eight losses.
