Obituaries PUBLISHED: She was born Dec. 6, 1923, in Faithorn, Mich., the daughter of the late Tycko and Mary (Isaacson) Carlson. On Aug. 31, 1944, at Hermansville United Methodist Church, Gladys married Irwin L. Sutherland, who preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1991. Gladys was the director of Men-o-mee Activity Center for Handicap in Hermansville until 1965. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Phythian Sisters. She loved all crafts, knitting, crocheting, reading and watching sports. Gladys especially loved spending time with her family and friends. Gladys lived on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan until the summer of 2002, when she moved to Elk Rapids then to Traverse City in the fall of 2003. Gladys is survived by her daughter, Donna (Nels) Selbo of Elk Rapids; granddaughters, Dawn (Patrick) Tubbs of Flushing, Lynette (Claude) Galipeau of Lakeland, Fla., and Kristin (Robert) LaFerriere of Lewiston; seven greatgrandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her sister, Vida Peters of Tomah, Wis., and brother, Stanley Carlson of Faithorn. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Irwin L. Sutherland, and brother, Howard Carlson. A memorial service for Gladys Marie Sutherland will be held at a later date this summer. Cremation will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Oak Grove Cremation Center. |
