Hunt, a Williamsburg resident, was enjoying a spring break in the Houston area with her aunt and uncle, Cindy and Keith Way of Katy, Texas. The Ways are formerly Kalkaska and the Traverse City area.

The Ways spend their weekends and some holidays their hunting lease, which is called "New Pens." The lease about three hours south of Houston near a small town named Refugio.

Hunt, along with family members, enjoyed fishing and exploring the vast hunting and fishing lease using four-wheelers.

On the last evening at the lease, Hunt accompanied her uncle and returned just before dark with the boar. She was thrilled and able to freeze and transport the prize hunt back Michigan.
